How Exercise Benefits Your Brain Health?

 Exercise may not sound good to everyone but no one can deny its benefits. This is marked that exercise helps you to get a slimmer figure by losing weight. Also, it helps to make you fit, smart and active for the day. A less common benefit of working out is that it enhances the efficiency of the brain. This activity includes both intelligence and memory.

Till date, many shreds of evidence suggest that exercise is not only good for the body but also for the brain. If a person is in a routine which involves regular exercise or gym sessions, it significantly lowers the risk of many brain diseases mainly Alzheimer’s, Parkinson and general cognitive decline. It is also studied to be helpful for making the aging process slow.

A research study has been published in British Journal Of Sports Medicine which suggest that exercise and cognitive abilities have a direct linkage in between. It involved 39 subsequent research studies among exercise habits and age. Almost all the participants were 50 or above. This analysis was further divided by types of exercise i.e. resistance training, aerobics and casual workout. The sole verdict of this report was that an exercise routine of 45 minutes or more helps to make the brain health better.

The study results are convenient to follow and believe but how exactly is that possible. This question has no prominent answer but the solution lies in logical reasoning. When the body is subjected to any type of physical activity, it improves the blood circulation. When the amount of blood transported towards the brain is improved, it eventually improves the activity of all the cognitive functions. This blood flow towards the brain is called cerebral blood flow or simply cerebral flow. The amount of oxygen and nutrients are doubled with an improved blood being available for the brain.

When the body is in rest phase, all the subsequent organs are at rest too. Any type of movement makes the body systems to work fast. An even higher activity like running or intense cardio workout makes the heart beat faster. It is a clear indication that your body is putting more effort to cope up with your activity. This enhanced activity of the body makes blood to rush in arteries. Same is the case with exercise. So technically, when a person works out, all the body functions are increased for their rate of action. It arises the healthy blood flow concept which provides sufficient nutrients to the cell. This is an ideal situation where a body can grow at maximum.

Even a “light” exercise which doesn’t make heart rate so high is beneficial. An improved blood flow generates new brain cells. It increases the quantity of BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) protein which repairs and regenerate the damaged cells. It also helps to improve memory, focus, concentration and mental sharpness. Controlling the hormones is an additional factor which maintains a happy feeling for the person. It further reduces the chances of psychotic diseases and depression.

Many fitness trainers endorse light to medium exercise for a fit regime. According to them, all exercises are not suitable for all bodies. Since all body types are different, there must be relevant and effective exercises too. in a world where most of the middle age people are either subjected to diseases or fitness issues, the best solution to have is a light to medium activity to get started. Only if a person is able to cope up with it, hard fitness training is prescribed.
